My preference is for a good murder mystery or thriller. I was brought up on some classic crime writers – Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers, Josephine Tey, Margery Allingham, Ed McBain – thanks to my father. My more contemporary favourites would be Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, Michael Connelly, PD James, Jonathan Kellerman, David Hewson, Peter James, and I could go on, and on, and on.
I am happy to read other genres – historical fiction (think Bernard Cornwell, Colin Iggulden), horror (Stephen King, James Herbert) and other favourite authors would include Anita Shreve, Joanne Harris, Sebastian Faulks and John Jakes.
I read very little non-fiction, struggle with sci-fi and am not keen on “chick lit” but if I’m honest then given a book of any kind I will happily give it a go. Above all I read books for my pleasure.
