What would Hemingway say about this App?
You may not want to use the Hemingway App for an entire book, but if you have a page or paragraph that needs improvement be sure to give it a test-drive.
The Hemingway App will point out common writing mistakes by highlighting run-on sentences or problems such as the over use of adverbs and adjectives.
It will also give you a “reading grade level,” which can be useful if you are targeting specific children’s age groups or university level audiences.
Works on both PCs and Macs.
Here is the Hemingway App and here is information on how to use it.
Note: I decided to mention the Hemingway App because I kept on seeing RAVE reviews about it. Some writers went on and on about how great it is. I tested it and honestly? I don’t much care for it.
Just out of curiosity, I ran the above post though the new Beta App. Apparently I have three sentences that apparently are “too difficult.” Being a contrary sort, I decided to NOT to make any changes. I guess you either LOVE this App or NOT!
Let me know what you think! What do YOU think Hemingway would say about the App?
I was curious because if there is a good online editor, I’d use it. So I did a couple tests and it flagged passive voice. I know this is a ongoing problem for me.
Just out of curiosity, I copied in a page of Hemingway text and it flagged three of his sentences as very difficult. Looks like Hemingway doesn’t make it though his namesake app. Too funny!
Total inspiration Conney. I’ve tested a few auto editors with the first sentence from the Tale of Two Cities. The sentence is etched in my memory and starts with … “IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness …” In its entirety, the sentence is 119 words long.
Most teachers would fail a student for writing it. Most editors would go into a state of total despair if their new book project started that way!
I already know the Hemingway App will tell me the sentence is “difficult to read.” Yes it is difficult and EXCITING to read!
